If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.

what is it, what qualifies me to lead it, and why I love to do it?

I am a proud and grateful graduate of New York City’s one & only WOOM CENTER. “It is the holistic lovechild of east and west tradition and innovation, the personal and the communal. The practice seamlessly blends ancient practices of yoga and meditation, a futuristic flavor for technology, and a deep desire to stay present.”

I, like WOOM, am ”inspired by many scientific and spiritual philosophies, yet I follow no particular one. My Sound Sessions are nondenominational, unbiased and fear-free. The invitation is presence-centered, oneness-focused and love-driven. It is about what brings us together and makes us realize how undeniably connected we are.”

The Session Experience

Utilizing music and sound, Sound Meditation aims to clear the mind and enhance the depth of meditation.  This age-old practice finds application in various cultures, religious traditions, and mystical practices.  The multi-dimensional nature of music connects different regions of the brain, facilitating meditation beyond conscious thought.  Its effects encompass anxiety reduction and the promotion of a profound sense of well-being.

EXPLORING SOUND MEDITATION...

A Gong-focused sound meditation entails an immersive auditory encounter.  In this experience, you position yourself at your preferred distance from a gong, allowing its distinct tones to envelop you in a cascade of sound waves, akin to being bathed in sound.  The gentle resonance effortlessly guides your mind into a meditative state, while the vibrations invigorate your body and help release accumulated tension.

EFFECTIVENESS...

A Gong-focused sound meditation serves as an excellent means to disconnect from an attention-hungry world, granting your eyes and mind a chance to rest and rejuvenate.  The distinct tones of the gong and other therapeutic instruments synchronize your brainwaves to a tranquil and restorative state, enabling you to enjoy the rewards of meditation without any prior experience.  You simply find a comfortable spot to recline, close your eyes, and listen.  Many participants/receivers find themselves entering a profoundly serene realm during the session and experience heightened calmness and relaxation afterward.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE SESSION…

Commencing with a brief introduction and a concise guided meditation to facilitate your immersion, the gong then takes center stage.  As you sit or lie in comfort, you'll absorb the diverse sounds and embrace any sensations that may arise.  The session culminates in a moment of silence followed by gentle guidance to reorient you.

Possible SOUND MEDITATION ADVANTAGES...

The sonic resonance emanating from a gong encompasses both mental and physical dimensions.  Mentally, its harmonics induce a meditative state by harmonizing brainwave frequencies into a tranquil zone, facilitating mental repose and rejuvenation.  Physically, the palpable vibrations assist in releasing blocked energy and alleviating tension.  Participants/receivers often lose track of time during a sound meditation, emerging with a profound sense of tranquility and composure.  The benefits are manifold – improved sleep, stress alleviation, and emotional catharsis rank among the most frequently cited.  Additionally, sound meditations foster mental clarity, concentration, and creativity.  On a physiological level, heart rate and respiration harmonize and slow down due to the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system.  Some studies even suggest an increase in nitric oxide – a regulator of health-related physiological processes – in the bloodstream. Lastly, considering that water effectively conducts sound and our bodies possess a significant water composition, we effectively function as colossal sound resonators.  The exposure to robust sonic vibrations aids in reshaping our cellular and molecular structure.

SENSATIONS DURING THE EXPERIENCE...

Individual responses to the gong vary.  The sound waves activate nerve endings and permeate cells, potentially inducing tingling sensations or feelings akin to electricity.  Furthermore, the gong exerts an influence on the mind, guiding it toward a meditative realm.  Some experience profound bliss, while others might encounter heightened emotional states.  Each encounter is distinct, with the initial experience often intense as it introduces the mind and body to this novel practice.  While some individuals may drift into sleep, remaining awake and present typically optimizes the experience and participants will be gently invited back to a non-sleep state.

ATTIRE CONSIDERATIONS...

Sound meditations do not necessitate elaborate athletic attire.  Wear whatever you find comfortable – yoga threads, loose casual clothes, or weekend wear – all are perfectly suitable for the experience if they are nonbinding, soft, and comfortable. An Eye mask or something soft that will allow the eyes to gently rest is also very much recommended.

Open to all.

No prior experience is required.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR...

Sound meditations generally prove enjoyable for most individuals.  However, if you have epilepsy or a history of seizures, consulting your physician is advised.  The sound can potentially trigger a deep meditative journey, potentially unearthing and releasing emotions.  Individuals dealing with mental health concerns should also seek medical advice.

In-person sound meditations are not suitable for individuals with pacemakers, those prone to seizures (epileptics), or individuals highly sensitive to sound.  Pregnant women in their first trimester are advised against participating due to the inherent instability of this period.  If you wear a hearing aid, it's recommended to turn it off during the session.  For any concerns, consulting your doctor beforehand is recommended. Inform your instructor at the session's outset if you have any apprehensions.
